Challenge of Music Blog Hop

I'm so excited to be a part of Erin's blog hop: Challenge of Music.

When I first heard about this challenge I jumped all over it thinking it would be cool to make bead work inspired by music.  I picked a song right away and started scheming about what to make....and that's when it got stumped.

My music taste is pretty varied.  By the numbers it looks kind fo like this (based on my iTunes library - genre/number of songs):
  • Alternative/12
  • Blues/1
  • Childrens/12
  • Christian/11
  • Country/20
  • Dance/7
  • Disney/8
  • Electronic/1
  • Folk/9
  • HipHopRap/17
  • Holiday/10
  • Jazz/4
  • New Age/72
  • R&B/15
  • Pop/122
  • Rock/117
  • Soundtrack/76
  • Vocal/8
I'm one of those people who hear a song I love and play it over and over again....or make a mix tape cd and insert my new favorite song as every other song.

At first I had picked one of my favorite Christian songs that inspires me over and over again.  I never tire of listening to this song and it moves me every time hear it!   The song is Josh Wilson's Before the Morning.  Check out these lyrics - it's pretty good stuff.  Unfortunately, it just wasn't moving me in the bead arena.

The song that I've been recently listening to over and over again....and feeling like I would like to live by these words is Beyonce's I Was Here.

I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time
Know there was something that, and something that I left behind
When I leave this world, I'll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember, so they won't forget

I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here...
I did, I've done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here...

I want to say I lived each day, until I died
I know that I had something in, somebody's life
The hearts I have touched, will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference, and this world will see

I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here...
I did, I've done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know

I just want them to know
That I gave my all, did my best
Brought someone to happiness
Left this world a little better just because...

I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here...
I did, I've done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I wanna leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here...

I think these lyrics speak for themselves and inspire a sense of making each day count.

And so what better challenge than to make something for Beyonce herself to wear!

She's pretty gorgeous, if you ask me....and she seems to have a penchant for large, spectacular earrings.  It wasn't hard to get inspired at the idea of making a pair of earrings for Beyonce to wear! I made several pairs of earrings and finally settled on this pair for my challenge piece:

Thanks so much to Erin for hosting and creating this really unique challenge.  I enjoyed it and it was truly a challenge to make music my inspiration for beading!

Coming up for air!

Well...the big festival I work on each year ended 10 days ago and I feel like I'm finally coming up for air!

My best friend's daughter flew down from Massachusetts to help take care of my son while I was out of town for 4 days, so when I got back from the festival, we headed back into the city to Georgetown Cupcake since she enjoys that cupcake was Valentines Day....and there was a bit of a line...

but the kids didn't seem to mind!

When we got to the front of the line, the lady allowing people in and out, the cupcake bouncer, told us they'd had a record day having baked over 35000 cupcakes in the previous 24 hours!!!  Holy Cupcake Batman!  It was worth the wait.  I enjoyed the salted caramel....and then a lemon blossom.....and then...

While I ate all my cupcakes, I continued to get ready for my son's Cub Scout Blue & Gold Banquet where he was to receive his Arrow of Light award.  I made a beaded band for the other boys in his den.  I'm not a fast peyote stitcher, and felt like I was racing against time....but it was totally worth doing them.  It's not often I get to bead something for my boy!  I finished them Friday night with plenty of time to spare before the event the next day!
Each of the triangles represents a cub scout rank, and he fleur de lis is one of the scouting emblems.
His ceremony was awesome!
I can't believe he graduated from Cub Scout to Boy Scout.  Here's to hoping he sticks with it until he gets his eagle rank!

In other news, I learned late last week that I have a ruptured ligament on my ankle (back in December I slipped on one of my dogs' bones - thought it would resolve on its own...).  I sure hope this isn't an annual thing!  The 3 piece brace is helping, but I'm terrified I may need surgery....especially since the doctor grimaced and shook his head while he said it might heal in the brace....
It could be worse though....I could have ruptured a ligament in one of my hands!

I have been working on several pieces lately.  I just finished these earrings - a birthday present for a friend of mine:

Here are some challenges/hops/projects that I am working on and planning to take part in:
Erin (of Treasures Found::Inspiration is Everywhere) is holding a hop called Challenge of Music ....  I jumped all over this one thinking about some great songs...but now i'm having a little trouble translating that into beadwork!  I guess that's why we call it a challenge...

Beading Babes projects are going to be revealed on March 4.  (Phew - thank goodness this was extended - I was stymied for different reasons on each piece, but I feel good about finishing at least one of the projects by March 4.)

Fashion Colorworks is a very cool color challenge in it's third year.  The competition challenges beaders to submit work using one of the three color combinations made up from Pantone's top 10 fashion colors for Spring 2012.  I feel a little ridiculous even entering this one because the competition is simply out of my league (seriously - the work submitted for this contest will blow you away).  But, it will be fun to push myself!

Blogging A-Z challenges bloggers to write a post every day in the month of April except on Sundays.  They ask the question Can you post every day except Sundays during this month?  And to up the bar, can you blog thematically from A to Z?  I did this one last year and it was a HUGE challenge, but I really enjoyed it.  I was all over the place last year and am aiming to try for a truly bead themed A-Z blogging this time!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!  I've been absent for a while, but my festival is over and I'm getting my energy back and my head out of the wine and food sand!  Here's a snapshot of a small portion of the festival:

I was fortunate to participate in Michelle Mach's Valentine Challenge.  The idea is to get us beaders to step outside our creative box, and get creative with a different medium.  Michelle sent each participant one of her embossed cards (which are so gorgeous by the way, I barely wanted to embellish it at all!), and the challenge was to decorate it.

Here is my card:

And if you have a moment, check out all the other participants on her blog - the results were beautiful and unique and really fun to see!

I'll be catching up more, later this week!

It's that time of year where I complain about how busy I am because of the big wine & food festival that is my biggest project of the year.  Good news is that it takes place next week!  Woo hoo!  But I'm awfully tired of looking at this all day:
It's 9:15pm and aside from walking my dogs for 40 minutes and running out for quick dinner with my husband, I've been sitting her staring at this computer since 7 this morning! ugh.  So this won't be too long a post...and mostly pics!

I finished my fourth square for the Bead-It Forward Quilt project...
...worked a bit on my FOCUS pendant...

..and began a new project of a beaded band to go around my son's Cub Scout Arrow of Light arrow...
...thankfully I came up with a relatively simple pattern....cuz I'm doing it for two other boys' arrows too!  I better hurry up as well because they need to be ready by Feb 18!!! Yikes!

And that's about it over the last couple weeks!  I'm excited to watch the Patriots in the Super Bowl this weekend!

Oh - and here's a small free's the same size as the bird quilt squares!  I see a quilt of my own in the future!
