When I first heard about this challenge I jumped all over it thinking it would be cool to make bead work inspired by music. I picked a song right away and started scheming about what to make....and that's when it got stumped.
My music taste is pretty varied. By the numbers it looks kind fo like this (based on my iTunes library - genre/number of songs):
- Alternative/12
- Blues/1
- Childrens/12
- Christian/11
- Country/20
- Dance/7
- Disney/8
- Electronic/1
- Folk/9
- HipHopRap/17
- Holiday/10
- Jazz/4
- New Age/72
- R&B/15
- Pop/122
- Rock/117
- Soundtrack/76
- Vocal/8
At first I had picked one of my favorite Christian songs that inspires me over and over again. I never tire of listening to this song and it moves me every time hear it! The song is Josh Wilson's Before the Morning. Check out these lyrics - it's pretty good stuff. Unfortunately, it just wasn't moving me in the bead arena.
The song that I've been recently listening to over and over again....and feeling like I would like to live by these words is Beyonce's I Was Here.
I wanna leave my footprints on the sands of time
Know there was something that, and something that I left behind
When I leave this world, I'll leave no regrets
Leave something to remember, so they won't forget
I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here...
I did, I've done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here...
I want to say I lived each day, until I died
I know that I had something in, somebody's life
The hearts I have touched, will be the proof that I leave
That I made a difference, and this world will see
I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here...
I did, I've done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I will leave my mark so everyone will know
I just want them to know
That I gave my all, did my best
Brought someone to happiness
Left this world a little better just because...
I was here...
I lived, I loved
I was here...
I did, I've done, everything that I wanted
And it was more than I thought it would be
I wanna leave my mark so everyone will know
I was here...
I think these lyrics speak for themselves and inspire a sense of making each day count.
And so what better challenge than to make something for Beyonce herself to wear!
She's pretty gorgeous, if you ask me....and she seems to have a penchant for large, spectacular earrings. It wasn't hard to get inspired at the idea of making a pair of earrings for Beyonce to wear! I made several pairs of earrings and finally settled on this pair for my challenge piece:
Thanks so much to Erin for hosting and creating this really unique challenge. I enjoyed it and it was truly a challenge to make music my inspiration for beading!

So cool that you made something that Beyonce herself would want to wear. Those earrings are fearless, just like she is. Bold and daring. Dramatic. Very powerful yet intricate and beautiful. The embodiment of Miss Beyonce herself! Thank you for joining in this musical journey. Enjoy the day!
