A-Z Blog Challenge - Color

Today's letter is "C", and my topic is COLOR.

Color is such a personal thing – evoking emotion and influencing the psyche. I am forever fascinated by the psychology of color.

Then, of course, color is a major component of design! I can attest to that having recently pulled apart 45 minutes of work on a project, simply because I didn't like the way the colors were coming together! And there are plenty of unfinished projects in a box in my bead room that I also discarded because the color wasn't right.

Over the last couple years, I've had some of the most beading fun, joining in on color challenges. Since the beginning of my blog, one of my favorite color challenges was last year when Marcie, author of La Bella Joya, hosted a wonderful challenge called “Margie & Me”. She took color palettes from Margie Deeb's book and challenged beaders to create something in that palette. Sometimes Marcie created her own palettes.

My favorite color is pink. Although orange comes in at a very close second....sometimes I think it's fighting for first place. I was tickled this year, when Pantone announced Tangerine Tango as the “color of the year”....
..and at work in my 'real job', I've been sneaking it in anywhere I can (backgrounds, bold text, printed materials, marketing collateral, etc...)...and enthusiastically defending my orange selection by reminding people that it's the color of the year!!!  Why here's a shot of some of my handy work in orange right here!

  1. I'm so happy to hear that there is another orange lover out there!! People look at me like I'm crazy when I way I love orange. I was thrilled also when Pantone made it the color of the year! I love all colors and if they're bright, all the better!

  4. Hi Amy,
Color is the spice of life can you imagine what the world would be without it.
I would not say that orange is my favorite color, but I am sure enjoying the color this year.

  5. The psychology of color is an interesting study. I saw where in Orlando they have painted the interior of their individual cells in subdued pastels. Apparently, this has resulted in a decrease in violence among the inmates.

As for beading, what patience that must take! Do you sell what you make? Retail or wholesale? Just curious.

  6. Hello Amy!

Gorgeous beading projects :D Orange is such a happy color. I usually tend to go for the cooler colors (blues and greens and greys) but I do like a little citrus every now and then :D

Hope you're enjoying the challenge so far!
    Cheers from a new follower,
    Jen

  7. I do struggle with colour sometimes and I tend to keep going to my faves: blues, greens and purples. What has helped me a lot is that I started doing colouring books a few years ago. Dover Press and Mandali.com have amazing and intricate designs to colour and I use them as exercises, to experiment with different combos.
