Humbled!!!

I had quite an honor, TWICE last week!!!  I am blown away to have been awarded the Kreativ Blogger Award by two of my creative and sweet blogger friends, Therese and Ginger.  My heart was warmed by their kind words and I promise to follow the award rules very soon!!  Thank you ladies.

I have been very busy lately, because I am moving.  It's kind of a long drawn out story about our situation - but ultimately we will be relocating from Maryland to Massachusetts by the end of the year.   In the meanwhile, we need to move out of this house by July 28. I am excited to get up to Massachusetts, because almost my entire family lives there...and my best friend of nearly 40 years lives there, and one of my dearest friends from this region just moved there!

As a general rule, I don't like moving.  Actually, I hate it.  When we first moved into this house, we were a family of five.  My stepdaughters were sleeping here every other weekend and once during the week.  Then one of them moved in full time.  And my son of course also lived here.  But then our oldest of our three moved away 5 years ago.  And the second oldest moved last year.  So now we are a family of three.  We have a house bigger than what we need, and are moving into much smaller living quarters.

I was originally a little annoyed with the colossal mountain of work I was facing.  There is something taking up every shelf, every drawer, and every bit of wall space in this house.  The bottom line is we have way too much stuff.

So I work all day, and then, I make dinner, and then I tackle a space.  So far, I've managed to send 5 trash bags full of clothes to good will, and 11 shopping bags of books to the library.  Last night I started working through my bead stash to see how I could store my stash more efficiently.  Apparently I hadn't been doing a very good job:

This was just my delica stash and after consolidating colors, I ended up with 42 empty containers!  There may be a bead destashing giveaway in my future!

So now, here's the thing....as much as I hate moving....I'm really starting to enjoy the process of eliminating things we don't need!  We have to downsize, and it feels GOOD!  I even find myself doing it in other areas, I must have unsubscribed to 15 companies yesterday that send me emails too often on things that I'm not een interested in any longer.   And in the kitchen - wow - there's way too much stuff there as well!  Aside from my picking up veggies and fruit at my markets, I don't think I'm going to go grocery shopping until August.

Right now I'm trying to get every thing I 'need', into one small space in the house.  And all that I need, I seems, is my computer for work, and some files.  And my beads!   So when I complete that task (tonight??), I will more easily be able to tackle the rest of the house.

  1. Moving is really a hard process! I hate it too. But, you're right about clearing stuff out. I've been trying to do that all year and I'm still at it since I don't have a deadline. Good luck!

  3. Hi Amy,
Oh man I know what you are going through. It is amazing what you gather in the years you spend in one place and you don't realize you have that much stuff until you have to move. Well have fun sorting through and if you get to where you are wanting to keep more than necessary, just watch a few episodes of Hoarders.

  4. YAY! You're coming here!! That's so great! :D Since my ex got a lot of our stuff, I downsized big time last year when moving from the west coast back to the Cape area. It did feel good. I could still probably get rid of more stuff too! Good luck with your move!

  5. I don't know how long you've lived in your home, but as I move every few years. It is tiresome, but well worth it to par down. Have you discovered any forgotten treasures yet? That's my favorite part.
