2nd Annual Spring Fling Kit Challenge!

We had so much fun last year - let's do it again this year!!

You may remember my Bead Soup Blog Party partner from the last round - the very talented polymer clay artist: Alenka from Pepita Handmade.  Well I collaborated with her and she made all the focals for the kit!

We decided to release today, because today is her birthday!  Happy Birthday Alenka!

So without further ado, here is the kit for the Spring Fling Kit* challenge:

This focal is so pretty - Alenka did a beautiful job with it - but frankly it's even prettier in person.  I have always found purple a difficult color to photograph, and this photo doesn't do the purple on this focal justice...the purple on this focal is so vibrant and spring-y!   The base is opalescent and there are little flecks of glitter in the wings!

Here are the details - there are a limited number of kits available.  They are $4 per kit, plus $2 for shipping in the U.S ($4 for outside the U.S.).  Kits will be shipped out next week.  The reveal will be on April 20.  (Once again the reveal is taking place on the "R" day for the Blogging from A-Z challenge!)

If you are interested, please leave a comment or email me and I'll send out an invoice for the kit!
(I did it on Etsy last couple times, but found that several people bought the kit without any knowledge of the challenge/reveal etc...!)

*Some kits may vary slightly!

My Ingredients are Here!

Eeek!  I am so excited that my beautiful bead soup came - all the way from Canada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kepi (of A little of this, a little of that), is my partner and I was delighted yesterday to receive her package!

First of all - how cute is this sweet maple leaf package!?!?

And to my delight - here is the wonderful bead soup she sent!

How gorgeous and unique is this focal?!? I'm very excited.  I immediately had some ideas running through my head when I saw this focal!  Can't wait to start playing around with it! I am very excited to once again be participating in the Bead Soup Blog Party and very excited that Kepi is my partner!

I would have taken the rest of the soup out of their bags to photograph - but I'm going to hold off  until I finish dealing with this:

Also - I may be crazy, but I once again signed up for the Blogging from A-Z Challenge.

Really, Amy!?  These days I can barely manage once a week - never mind six times a week!  I'm hoping once I'm unpacked and settled into a routine, I'll be able to blog more.  I selected "Craft" as a category, so I may veer away somewhat from beads and include other crafts as well!  We'll see!!!!

Rambling!

Sorry in advance for the rambling post.
I confess, I haven't been doing a lot of beading lately.....actually - strike that - I haven't done any beading this week! But finally this giant box came - and it contains all our stuff!!!

STUFF!  And lots of it.  I haven't seen my stuff in seven months, and although it's hard work unloading and unpacking, it's been fun seeing stuff that I forgot I had.  Don't even get me started on the principal/philosophy of maybe getting rid of things I couldn't remember I owned!!!  The truth is, I got rid of a ton of furniture and household items, and books, and clothes, and toys, etc... back in July when we moved out of our house.  Giving away to neighbors and goodwill.  But another truth.....is that I KISSED my kitchen knives when I pulled them out of the box!!!

MWAH! I missed my wonderful sharp kitchen knives!!   They were a wedding present four and a half years ago and they are still as wonderful as they were when we received them four and a half years ago!  And speaking of weddings....my hubby is en route to see us as I type this blog post!  I haven't seen him in six weeks and am happy to report I miss him a lot!

My husband is laughing in this pic because I just told him about how my brother, inadvertently put the flower girl dresses on my nieces, opposite of how they were supposed to be! 5yo wears size 3 dress, and 3yo wears size 5 dress!!  Bless his sweet single dad heart!

And speaking of nieces, I felt so lucky to now live close enough to these sweet girls, that I was able to see my older niece's first concert!
Love her!!!

So enough of my rambling!  My soul is aching to bead and I plan to do so this weekend!!!  Definitely going to work on my Beading Babes' fish, my Bead Journal Project February project, and I better hurry up and also start my Challenge of Music piece!

Happy Weekend TO ALL!

Snow and the BSBP!

We had a fine snow storm here over the weekend!! It delayed me by one day in getting to the post office to mail my soup to my partner, Kepi....but to my defense...there was a driving ban in effect all day on Saturday! Here's the soup I sent Kepi!!  I truly hope she enjoys it!

But Saturday was FUN!  It finally stopped snowing mid-day and Jackson donned his snowpants and headed out!  The pups - even though they didn't like it at first - also were intent on joining him!

During most of the day on Saturday, I worked on my Beading Babes project.  Although the reveal date is not until April, I want to have this fish ready for an event I am attending in early March! Here are the segments so far.
I like the segments so far, but in all honestly I am not enjoying putting them together.  The directions on this part are somewhat difficult to follow and after several failed attempts of attaching the tail to the first segment I ended up ripping it apart and I put it aside.  I'm going to wait a few days and figure out how to put it together myself!  On the other hand - the segments came together easily and they look great!  I'm excited to see how this turns out.

Owls and other crafty things!

I'm excited to learn my Bead Soup Blog Party partner is Kepi, from the blog, A little of this, a little of that.  We've been blogger friends for a while now and 'chat' frequently.  Kepi is a very talented beader and shares my love of seed beads.  And while in the past, I've enjoyed meeting new friends through the BSBP - this is totally FUN to partner with someone I already know and admire!

In the meanwhile, I've got a few birthdays coming up and just completed beading up this owl for my girlfriend who loves owls! The pattern needs a bit of work (there was definitely some un-weaving and re-weaving going on with this one), but when I have a chance to fix the pattern I will post on my free patterns page.

Future plans include mounting this in a frame and perhaps add some mixed media elements to the project.  Stay tuned!

And speaking of owls....I like them too!!!  My previous BSBP partner was Alenka, of Pepita Handmade, and she and I are partnering for my next kit challenge.  The dates and details are coming very soon because I just got my package of focals from her!!! They are gorgeous and I can't wait to share them!

In the meanwhile - Alenka is so sweet and she sent me this darling, wonderful owl pendant that I had admired on her facebook page! and you can find them on her flickr page too!

We're expecting about a foot of snow here this weekend so I suspect there will be a LOT of beading in my near future!!! I can't wait to play with this focal!

In other crafty news, I finally gave away my last set of stenciled glasses that I did for the holiday gifts...so I can finally share!  I absolutely LOVED this craft and cannot wait to do more.

These are Martha Steward silk screen stencils for use with glass paint on glass and ceramic.  The possibilities are seriously endless.

The craft is relatively simple as well.  There is a little bit of a learning curve on figuring out how much paint to use, and how big or small a stencil you can use based on the curve of the glass....but once you figure that out, it is so much fun to play with the different colors and finishes of paint, and mix them! And use more than one stencil!!  My only complaint with this craft is that you have to wash and dry the stencil after every use/every time you apply paint.  Other than that little nuisance, it's really a lot of fun and the results are wonderful!
